PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Independent Sen. Angus King of Maine is ready to meet with President Barack Obama’s selection to the U.S. Supreme Court.
King will have a one-on-one meeting Wednesday in Washington with Merrick Garland.
Maine’s senior senator, Republican Susan Collins, already met with Garland.
King and Collins want the Senate to follow the “normal process” including a Judiciary Committee hearing.
The Senate’s Republican leadership is balking at holding a hearing and wants to let the new president is elected in November select a successor to Antonin Scalia.
