ALFRED, Maine (AP) - A Maine man sentenced to prison for setting his restaurant on fire maintains his innocence and plans to appeal.

A judge on Wednesday ordered 59-year-old Karl Maine to serve eight years in prison.

Police charge that Maine started a fire at Jake’s Diner in Limington in February 2014. He was convicted by a jury earlier this year.

Maine’s attorney, Scott Houde of Biddeford, says his client plans to fight the conviction.

Investigators say Maine started the fire to get out of about $7,000 in debt. He was not the owner of the building. It was valued at $142,000.
