MEADVIEW, Ariz. (AP) - Mohave County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a Meadview man in connection with the fatal shooting of a neighbor.

They say 61-year-old Victor Steven Empie was taken into custody Friday on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to a shooting at a home about 5:30 a.m. Friday.

They say 66-year-old John Hewett Payne was found dead at the doorway of his residence with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Authorities say Empie allegedly drove his truck into an RV owned by Payne and his wife.

They say Empie had an ongoing dispute with his neighbors.

When Payne opened his front door, authorities say Empie was standing there with a firearm.

They say Empie surrendered and provided statements that lead to his arrest and the firearm has been seized.
