TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - An emergency homeless shelter operated by the nonprofit Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse will stay open for another week.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle (https://bit.ly/1S6MvMT ) reports the nonprofit, which consists of 24 area churches, had planned to close for the season Friday, but has opted to stay open until April 15. This week, about 40 people have been housed in the shelter each night.
Safe Harbor Chairman Peter Starkel says the nonprofit extended the season with an influx of chilly weather and a building being available. Space was volunteered by Christ United Methodist Church for the added time.
