NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - A member of the New York Air National Guard is receiving special recognition for his actions after a suicide attack in Afghanistan that killed six Americans, including two fellow New Yorkers.

National Guard officials say Tech. Sgt. Flavio Martinez of the 105th Base Defense Squadron of the Newburgh-based 105th Airlift Wing has been made an honorary special investigations agent of the U.S. Air Force.

A suicide bomber on a motorcycle attacked a patrol last Dec. 21 outside Bagram Airfield, killing six U.S. airmen. The dead included two members of the New York Air National Guard: Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa of Coram on Long Island and Tech Sgt. Joseph Lemm, a New York City police officer from Westchester.

Martinez, who works from the Westchester County Department of Corrections, is currently deployed at Bagram.
