CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Two pit bulls that mauled and killed an elderly woman in Charlotte have been euthanized.

Local media outlets report that the dogs, which were family pets, completed a 10-day rabies quarantine on Thursday and then were euthanized.

Authorities say the dogs mauled and killed 84-year-old Besse Flowers on March 28 when she was visiting a relative.

Animal control officers went to the home after receiving a call about an aggressive animal and found the woman dead.
