ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man who fled to North Carolina with his 2-month-old child has been charged with murder in the death of his 26-year-old girlfriend who was strangled.
Union County prosecutors announced the charge against 33-year-old Arturo Alomas on Thursday in the death of Ternice Johnson, who was found dead in her Elizabeth apartment on March 27.
Authorities say she died of strangulation and asphyxiation.
Alomas was arrested in North Carolina about two hours before Johnson’s body was found when he tried to flee a state trooper with his 2-month-old child and crashed Johnson’s car. He faces charges of speeding to elude arrest, child restraint and related offenses in North Carolina.
It’s unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
