STRATSBURG, Va. (AP) - The Shenandoah County School Board has filed a lawsuit against the Shenandoah County Sheriff asking for access to the video that captured alleged misconduct on a school bus.

Media outlets report that seven Strasburg High School students were charged with assault and battery by mob after the December incident. Sheriff’s Maj. Scott Proctor previously said the alleged victim was a teenage boy who was traveling with the team.

The school board is asking the court to order Sheriff Timothy Carter to let the school board view the video used in the investigation.

In the text of the lawsuit, the board argues that the video is school record and is needed for decision-making about discipline.

Carter says in an affidavit replying to the lawsuit that the video cannot be released under state law without permission from students’ parents.
