MARSHALL, N.C. (AP) - Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood says an ongoing dispute likely led to the shooting death this week of a man in western North Carolina.
Authorities say that John Lunsford was shot and killed in a home in the Shelton Laurel community late Tuesday night.
Local media outlets report that two people have been charged in the case and made their first court appearances on Thursday.
Authorities say that 45-year-old Clinton Dean Shelton of Marshall is charged with murder, burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon. Thirty-year-old Latasha Alexis Shelton of Marshall is charged with felony aiding and abetting.
The sheriff says the Sheltons are not related but apparently were dating. It was not immediately known if either had an attorney.
