EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A 23-year-old Eugene man accused of stabbing his well-known doctor father has been found mentally fit to move forward with court proceedings.

The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/hZLEAf ) that on Thursday a Lane County Circuit Court judge ruled that Nicholas Taylor Wu was competent to proceed with the charges against him. Wu has been accused of attempted murder for stabbing his father, gastroenterologist William Wu, on Nov. 24 in the family’s home.

According to court documents, Wu’s mother, a licensed mental health counselor, told police her son suffers from a condition consistent with a schizophrenic disorder.

After the incident, Nicholas Wu was ordered to be committed to the Oregon State Hospital to determine if he is competent to stand trial. He is now incarcerated in the Lane County Jail.
