SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington Education Association’s board of directors has voted to join a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Washington’s new charter school law.

The association said in a news release Thursday night it has joined with seven groups including public school educators, administrators and labor unions who believe the law doesn’t adequately address two constitutional flaws in the original charter law. That law was ruled unconstitutional by the Washington Supreme Court in September.

The new law will change the way the state pays for charter schools, taking money from lottery sales instead of the state general fund, which supports other public schools.

Association officials say it could take up to two months to prepare the suit before filing in court.
