A Maricopa County judge has ordered an ex-con to appear in court this summer for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to killing one person and wounding five others in a 2015 Mesa rampage.

Ryan Elliott Giroux pleaded guilty on Friday to all 23 charges including first degree murder, aggravated assault and other charges stemming from a March 2015 shooting spree.

Defense attorney Stephanie Low said Giroux wanted to take responsibility for his actions. She said she had never in her career seen someone be so honest about their crimes.

Judge Margaret Mahoney scheduled the hearing for June 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Phoenix.

Ryan Elliott Giroux initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea Friday afternoon in Phoenix little more than a year after the initial hearing.

Giroux pleaded guilty to all 23 charges including first degree murder, aggravated assault and other charges stemming from a March 2015 shooting spree.

Authorities say Giroux shot three people at a motel and then another person at a nearby restaurant.

He carjacked a vehicle and then shot two others at two apartment complexes.

Police swarmed the city in a massive response, and a search ended several hours later with Giroux’s arrest in a vacant apartment.
