MATTHEWS, N.C. (AP) - A Charlotte-area Christian school has been closed for the day as officials scrub classrooms to get rid of a potential Norovirus outbreak.
Citing a post from the school website, the Charlotte Observer (https://bit.ly/1qxApzX ) reports that 30 percent of the students at Weddington Christian Academy were absent on Thursday with symptoms similar to norovirus.
Officials at the school in Matthews say they’re working with the Union County Health Department to determine how to best clean the school to get rid of the virus.
Norovirus is highly contagious and is characterized by nausea, vomiting, watery diarrhea and abdominal pain.
Officials encouraged parents to ensure their children were fever and symptom free for 48 hours before returning to school.
