BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont fire officials say 13 people are homeless after a two-unit home was heavily damaged by fire in Burlington.
Burlington Assistant Fire Marshal Joseph Keenan says the fire broke out just after 8 p.m. Friday at 8 Haswell St.
Keenan said no residents or firefighters were injured, due in large part to a citizen spotting the fire and alerting residents to evacuate.
The American Red Cross helped relocate the residents to temporary shelter after the three-alarm blaze.
Keenan says the fire started on a first-floor rear porch of the two-story building. Damage is estimated at $125,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
