MILFORD, Del. (AP) - Delaware police are investigating a fatal car crash that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man in Milford.

Police say the crash occurred Friday just after 11:30 p.m. when officers stopped a GMC Envoy on S. Walnut Street in Milford. Police say as the officers exited their patrol cars the Envoy sped off. He lost control while trying to negotiate a slight right turn and struck three trees before overturning onto its roof.

The driver, Lemar Campbell, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene. Campbell’s two passengers were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

Police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the wreck.
