MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - A Westchester County public safety commissioner is leaving his post just months after he was appointed to the position.

The Journal News reports (https://lohud.us/1oKfPLb ) that Robert Kelly has been replaced as public safety commissioner for Mount Vernon.

The newspaper says it obtained an order issued Friday naming Ronald Fatigate as acting police commissioner. The order was “by direction of Mayor Richard Thomas.”

The Journal News says it’s unclear whether Kelly resigned or was fired.

The newspaper says Thomas did not respond to calls for comment and Kelly could not be reached for comment.

Thomas was elected last year and began making changes immediately. The changes included consolidating the police and fire departments into a public safety agency.

Kelly was sworn in as public safety commissioner in January.
