BOISE, Idaho (AP) - An eight-hour standoff north of Emmett ended when authorities broke into the home to find a woman with a gunshot wound that looked like it was self-inflicted.

Authorities responded to a report of a man who had fallen in his front yard on Friday morning.

Gem County spokeswoman Michelle Chadwick told the Idaho Statesman (https://bit.ly/25Q5oI1) the man was shot twice.

A woman reported to be his wife was believed to be inside the house.

Neighbors were evacuated and streets were closed.

The man was taken to the hospital.

His condition is unknown.

Gem County Sheriff Chuck Rolland would not say whether the woman died.

He said family members have been notified.

Multiple agencies, a SWAT team and an armored vehicle were on the scene.
