MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot police have issued a warning to older residents of the state to beware of scammers pretending to be family members.
Police say it’s part of so-called “grandparent scams” during which people impersonate relatives in need of help and dupe unsuspecting grandparents into sending them money.
Police say an area business shared that it had three separate elderly customers seeking to purchase gift cards after receiving a call from someone claiming to be a grandchild. The business was aware of the swindle tactic and notified police.
