SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge because her 9-month-old baby drowned in a bathtub after deputies say she passed out drunk.

Multiple media organizations reported the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office charged 37-year-old Kimberly Wallace of Inman nearly two years after the baby’s death. Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Bobo said Wallace was charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.

Deputies say Wallace blamed the death on another child in the home, who she said placed the baby in the bathtub without her knowledge.

Bobo said authorities had to interview the child, but couldn’t do so without Wallace’s consent. The woman eventually agreed.

The incident report says Wallace had been drinking for hours before the accident. Investigators learned she’d become unresponsive while caring for her children other times.
