PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Officials have released the cause of death of a 70-year-old woman who was living at a state-run group home that was closed after reports of suspected abuse of the residents.

The state medical examiner’s office ruled Friday that Barbara Annis died from complications of a leg fracture.

Officials say Annis died Feb. 15 after being admitted to the hospital for treatment of an infection after breaking her leg at College Park Apartments, a group home for adults with developmental disabilities.

The Providence Journal reports that Annis wasn’t sent out for medical treatment for several days.

The Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals closed the group home on March 25 and residents were moved to new homes.

Five employees were placed on paid administrative leave.

State police are investigating.
