NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A 27-year-old man has died after a shootout with police in New Brunswick.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says Diahlo Grant was wounded in the shooting at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and died from his injuries at a hospital about two hours later.

Carey says Grant had been pursued by officers from the Somerset section of Franklin Township when they crossed the border into New Brunswick and gunfire was exchanged.

Carey says police recovered Grant’s gun.

The prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident under the state attorney general’s office’s use of force guidelines.

According to Carey, Grant was wanted for non-payment of child support in Middlesex County and violation of probation on a drug charge from Somerset County.
