PHOENIX (AP) - The Phoenix Fire Department says an off-duty firefighter rescued a tree trimmer who was trapped under palm tree trimmings.
Fire Capt. Aaron Ernsberger told KPHO-TV (https://bit.ly/1N1uVHY) that a portion of the tree sloughed off came down and its weight was suffocating the trimmer.
According to Ernsberger, Capt. Joey Gonzalez happened to be nearby and saw what occurred.
Gonzalez ran over and scaled some walls to get to the scene.
Ernsberger says Gonzalez used a ladder and immediately removed the fronds.
The tree trimmer was able to get down safely.
He was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
