DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A 20-year-old woman has been given 15 years in prison for shooting a teenager at a Des Moines restaurant.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/2bffn6S ) that Maryann Hannam said at her sentencing Tuesday that she was sorry about the shooting.

Police say Hannam was with three other people at the IHOP a little before 5:15 a.m. on March 14 when the girl came in and began yelling at Hannam. One of the women Hannam was with threw a coffee pot at the girl. The girl then challenged Hannam to shoot her.

Police say Hannam pulled a handgun from her waistband and, while holding down the teen in a booth, shot her in the upper torso.
