- The Washington Times - Thursday, August 11, 2016

The Washington Wizards will open the season on the road. Again.

The NBA announced the 2016-17 schedule Thursday night, and Washington opens on the road for the fifth consecutive season and begins with two road games for the third consecutive season. The season opener is Oct. 27 in Atlanta. The Wizards next play Oct. 30 in Memphis, despite Verizon Center being empty on both dates.

The home opener is Nov. 2 versus the Toronto Raptors.

The Wizards will be on national television just five times. Only two of those will be broadcast from Verizon Center a year after the team went 41-41 and missed the playoffs.

Washington played 19 back-to-back games last season. That has been reduced to 16 this season.

The NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers visit Verizon Center on Nov. 11. The Boston Celtics visit Nov. 9. The Golden State Warriors and Kevin Durant come to Washington on Feb. 28.
