DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say one person died in a fiery, chain-reaction wreck on Interstate 40 in Durham.
Local media outlets report the wreck about 10 a.m. Monday closed the westbound lanes of I-40 for several hours.
Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon says it appears a vehicle that stopped because of backed-up commuter traffic was rear-ended by a second vehicle, causing a chain reaction of collisions.
At least three vehicles were consumed by fire.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.
