PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Temporary closures at a Prescott fire station should be over thanks to a federal grant that will pay for nine firefighters.
The Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/2buCXbc ) that Prescott has been approved for a two-year $1.5 million federal grant through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program that should end the regular temporary closures at the Prescott Fire Department’s airport-area station.
The Prescott City Council still needs to accept the grant but City Manager Craig McConnell says he expects the council to accept the grant and discuss implementation at the Sept. 13 meeting.
The airport-area station has frequently been closed due to staffing problems. Officials say without enough firefighters to fill in for staff’s off time the station can’t be open 24/7.
