EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say four people were injured in a head-on crash after a motorist ran a stop sign in East Providence over the weekend.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2bHVtOk ) officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Purchase Street and Freeborn Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the first vehicle didn’t see a stop sign along Purchase Street and collided with the second vehicle, sending it partly down an embankment leading to Interstate 195. The two vehicles were reportedly a sport utility vehicle and a sedan. Both were towed from the scene.

Four people were hospitalized with neck, back and chest pain sustained in the crash.

Police issued one citation for the driver who ran the stop sign.
