SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is dedicating one of its 25-foot patrol boats to a former chief of the agency’s law division.
David R. Jones held the position from 1921 to 1927. A ceremony to honor him is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rotary Park in Sault Ste. Marie.
The public is invited to attend the event and view the boat, which patrols the St. Marys River and Lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan.
Its crew members keep watch for violations involving fishing and marine safety, homeland security, the U.S.-Canadian border and drunken boating. They also take part in search and rescue operations.
Jones served as chief deputy with responsibility for the law division when the DNR was known as the Conservation Department.
