FREMONT, Ohio (AP) - The Latest on a sheriff accused of theft, drug charges (all times local):

4 p.m.

A sheriff in northern Ohio is free on $150,000 bond after pleading not guilty to stealing medications from prescription drug disposal drop boxes and misusing department funds.

Sandusky County Sheriff Kyle Overmyer was released from jail Wednesday, less than two hours after he was arraigned.

Overmyer was in handcuffs and wearing an orange jail uniform during his first court appearance.

A grand jury indicted him on 43 counts Tuesday, including misusing department money and tampering with records.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated Overmyer for nearly a year. Authorities say he took medications from drop boxes and deceived physicians and pharmacists to obtain prescription pain medication.

Overmyer told The News-Messenger in Fremont earlier this year he’d done nothing wrong and that he passed a drug test conducted by investigators.
