MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - People in Vermont can once again send emergency text messages through the state’s 911 communication system.
The text-to-911 service was intentionally disabled on Aug. 1 due to a software issue.
Vermont’s Enhanced 911 Board reminds potential users that as with any emergency communication, the texting function should only be used in actual emergencies.
People who text 911 should provide the location of the event and the nature of the emergency in the first message.
And people should only use the text-to-911 option when they can’t make a voice call to 911.
