MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Brooklyn man is heading to prison after he was convicted of driving drunk at more than 130 mph when he crashed into a tree on Long Island, killing a passenger.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2btKt7B ) 25-year-old Bilal Hassan was sentenced to up to 25 years behind bars for the November 2014 crash in Nassau County that killed 24-year-old Malih Takkouche. Hassan was convicted in June of charges including aggravated vehicular homicide and manslaughter.
Authorities say Hassan lost control of his car on the Meadowbrook Parkway after a night out and crashed by an exit ramp. Hassan drove as fast as 133 mph, turning his car into what investigators called a lethal weapon.
Prosecutors say his blood alcohol level was 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit.
