PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Former Pawtucket Mayor James Doyle has died. He was 78.
Officials from Mayor Donald Grebien’s office confirmed that Doyle died overnight.
The Democrat served as mayor of Pawtucket for 13 years, stepping down at the end of 2010.
Doyle had also served on the Pawtucket City Council and had about 40 years of public service. His son, James Doyle II, represents Pawtucket in the state Senate.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said he was saddened to hear about Doyle’s death.
The Democrat said Saturday that Doyle “was the definition of a true public servant who dedicated his life to the City of Pawtucket.”
