BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Charges are pending against a 40-year-old Bismarck man after a toddler was rescued from an apartment complex swimming pool.

Police say the man was caring for an 18-month-old boy who fell into the water Tuesday night, and did not immediately come to the boy’s rescue when he saw him struggling.

After finally pulling the boy from the water, the man allegedly let the limp child fall over and strike his head on concrete.

The boy was hospitalized in intensive care. His condition wasn’t known. The man was arrested for child neglect.

Authorities say the incident was captured by surveillance video at the pool.
