KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Mohave County authorities say a Kingman police officer fatally shot a woman who pointed a shotgun at the officer.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as 35-year-old Paula Dell Phillips of Kingman and said she was the driver of a vehicle that had stopped on a road Monday night.

According to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, the officer was checking on the stopped vehicle when Phillips brandished a shotgun and pointed it at the officer, who fired several shots, killing Phillips.

The officer was not injured and was placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office says no additional information will be released until an investigation is complete.
