GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an attorney in north Florida arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual battery on a child fatally shot himself in a canoe on a lake.

The Gainesville Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2bAdAJ8 ) that Robert Livingston, an assistant county attorney, was found dead Tuesday in Newnan’s Lake near Gainesville.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Art Forgey says deputies went to the lake to search for Livingston after he failed to return as expected to a fish camp.

Livingston was arrested last week on two counts of attempted sexual battery on a child and one count of child abuse, and was free on a $50,000 bond.
