HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg has a new landmark, and it is in the form of a footbridge.
WDAM-TV (https://bit.ly/2bE0C8Q ) reports a ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday before a small crowd of residents and city workers to unveil The Pedestrian Bridge at Beverly Lane.
Mayor Johnny DuPree says the other bridge was long overdue to be changed. He says the new structure will “outlast all of us” and help continue the city’s efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The project totaled $70,200; however, the city was able to save taxpayers $49,800 as the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments partnered to construct and level the bridge.
