NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say two inmates who allegedly took a guard hostage for more than two hours are expected to be charged.

Thirty-two-year-old Leroy Hughes and 22-year-old Mehmed Devac are scheduled to appear in a Newport court in October. Police say the two men are expected to face charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Police say Devac and Hughes used a sharp object to threaten Malcolm Brown at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport on Aug. 11 and issued a list of demands. No injuries were reported.

Devac is serving time for assault and robbery with injury and other charges. Hughes was convicted of grand larceny and assault and robbery with a weapon.

Defender General Matt Valerio, whose office represents inmates, has said his staff will investigate.
