SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (AP) - A Sheboygan Falls woman is in custody following the death of her 2-year-old son.

Police say officers were called to a condominium Thursday afternoon and encountered the 27-year-old mother in a stairway armed with a large butcher knife.

Sheboygan Falls Police Chief Steven Riffel says an officer used a stun gun when the woman refused to drop the knife and advanced toward officers. Riffel says she was shocked a second time as she continued to struggle with officers as they tried to restrain her.

Officers found the injured child in a room at the condo. He was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan where he was pronounced dead. Police have not said how the child was injured.

Riffel says the child’s father doesn’t live in the area and the woman’s live-in boyfriend was not home.
