LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities and friends have identified three family members killed in a weekend crash and fire that also badly injured two other people returning home to the Las Vegas area after a trip to Utah.

The Clark County coroner said Tuesday that 56-year-old Michael Brandt, 25-year-old Ashley Piena and 20-year-old Carlan Michael Brandt died in the Sunday afternoon wreck on Interstate 15 near Valley of Fire State Park and Moapa (moh-AH’-puh).

They were all from Henderson.

Friends tell KSNV-TV (https://bit.ly/2aJLbBc) that Michael Brandt was a former Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints bishop in the Las Vegas area. They say his wife, Joy Brandt, and son-in-law, Kekoa Piena, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Nevada Highway Patrol hasn’t determined what caused the 2002 Toyota Highlander to crash and catch fire.
