CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Police in Charlotte have arrested a couple in the death of a child found unresponsive at a home on the city’s east side last month.

Local media outlets report 28-year-old Patrick Jamal Chambers and 24-year-old Tenisha Renea Wells were arrested without incident on Tuesday, and officials said they were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where they were charged with murder. It’s not known if the couple has an attorney.

According to police, the arrests stem from a July 25 incident in which officers responded to a call in reference to a child found unresponsive. Emergency personnel transported the child to Novant Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives determined the boy was physically assaulted, which led to his death.
