Sheriff: 7-year-old girl died of malnutrition

WELCH, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say that a North Carolina girl visiting West Virginia died of malnutrition.

McDowell County Sheriff Martin West tells WVVA-TV (https://bit.ly/2aJkGsy ) that the 7-year-old girl died in McDowell County on Aug. 1. She was visiting from Davidson, North Carolina.

West says officials responded to the scene and transported her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office is working with officials in North Carolina to determine if and where charges should be filed.
