PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona’s top judge says the state court system needs to stay up to date with using, storing and protecting the wide range of digital evidence that is increasingly being used in court cases, thanks to devices such as cellphones, surveillance equipment and lapel cameras.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Scott Bales has created a task force of judges, lawyers, police officials and others to make recommendations on issues such as considering privacy protections, cloud storage and chains of custody.
Bales wants the task force to submit recommendations to the state Judicial Council by Oct. 1 and to file a petition for possible state court rule changes by January 2018.
The task force’s chair is Court of Appeals Judge Samuel Thumma.
