SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe County authorities say a rural property’s caretaker shot and wounded a man who reportedly twice entered the property early in the morning.
The Sheriff’s Office says no charges have been filed in the Friday morning incident but that the case will be referred to prosecutors for review.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was sent after the caretaker reported a suspicious vehicle and the driver left the property after saying he’d gotten lost and then stuck when he tried to turn around.
About an hour later, the caretaker called the Sheriff’s Office again to report that the truck had returned and that he’d shot the trespasser.
The wounded man is hospitalized, and the Sheriff’s Office says investigators haven’t interviewed him yet due to his medical condition.
