SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri woman who survived a claw hammer attack by her husband said he didn’t deserve the life sentenced he received for the crime.
The Springfield News-Leader (https://sgfnow.co/2i0KDou ) reports that 61-year-old Robert Hess was sentenced Friday for the September 2015 attack that nearly killed his wife, Virginia. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to domestic assault and armed criminal action charges.
But Virginia Hess says her husband is not a violent person, even though she spent nine weeks in the hospital following the attack.
Assistant Greene County prosecutor Todd Myers says his office is pleased with the sentence.
