WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) - Authorities in Wichita Falls say a man stopped as a car theft suspect got into a scuffle with the officer who tried to detain him and then stole the officer’s patrol car, driving into him and leading police on a chase that ended with him being taken into custody about 15 minutes later at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Police say the officer is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

His name and the name of the man in custody were not immediately released Monday. Police say the officer fired his gun at least once, shattering a window of a passing SUV but neither of the two people inside is reported hurt.

The man in custody is facing charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and theft.
