FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) - After 37 years, former Washington Bullets player Kevin Grevey is closing the doors of his restaurant and sports bar outside the nation’s capital.

Grevey announced Thursday that Grevey’s Restaurant & Sports Bar in Falls Church, Virginia, will shut down Dec. 11. He cited an inability to renegotiate a favorable lease at its Yorktown Shopping Center location in the Merrifield neighborhood as the reason for closing.

The former shooting guard, who helped Washington to its first and only NBA championship in 1978, opened the sports bar in 1979. It’s known for its pub food and dozens of televisions.

Grevey said in a news release that serving the community has been pleasure and a privilege. He says he is searching for a new location.

The restaurant’s catering business will remain open.
