AUBURN, Maine (AP) - The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the county jail.

Fifty-two-year-old Scott Harmon of Auburn was found at 6:15 p.m. Thursday by a corrections officer.

The sheriff’s office says the officer immediately called for medical assistance and began administering medical attention. The office says Harmon was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and died there.

Harmon arrived at the county jail on Wednesday on drug related charges. The sheriff’s office says the cause of Harmon’s death is still pending, and the medical examiner’s office is investigating.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Maine Department of Corrections inspections division have also been notified to investigate Harmon’s death.
