PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say a woman being robbed outside a supermarket in the city’s Germantown section accidentally shot a security guard coming to assist her.

The 24-year-old guard was wounded in the shin in the parking lot of a Save-a-Lot grocery store after the 51-year-old robbery victim fired two shots at her assailant around 6 a.m. Monday.

Police say the incident began when the woman encountered the robber, who was blocking the store’s entrance.

The pair got into an altercation and the man charged the woman while swinging a large stick. The man threw hot coffee at the woman, who drew a revolver and fired.

Police say the woman has a license to carry and charges aren’t expected to be filed against her.

The guard is in stable condition.
