TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Tucson City Council has reaffirmed the city’s commitment to protecting immigrant residents in a new resolution.
The City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution that declares support for immigrants and condemns any threats of mass deportations.
Mayor Jonathan Rothschild said at a news conference the city will stand up for the civil rights of all of its residents and will challenge any unconstitutional measures in court.
The city will not use taxpayer money to help undocumented immigrants fight deportation.
At the news conference, city officials handed out material outlining what services are already available for undocumented immigrants.
Tucson is among more than 30 cities that have adopted similarly immigrant-friendly policies amid concerns about policies to come from Donald Trump’s administration come January.
