GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - The city of Gautier has put its own spin on the “Elf on the Shelf” with “Elf on the Bayou.”

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2i4uzCZ) the Elf on the Bayou started in November as a city contest. The elf - played by an anonymous resident - would make appearances around town, and residents were encouraged to keep up with where he had been spotted.

He appeared at the Lights and Lagniappe festival and Gautier Elementary School, among other places.

The contest ended Nov. 30. However, city grants writer April Havens says businesses have called to ask if the elf can keep popping up.

Havens says the Elf on the Bayou will continue to make appearances until Saturday, when he’s expected to return to the North Pole. She added that the elf will likely return for more Christmases.
